Another great day out to a favourite destination, starting with breakfast at Wetherspoons.
The intrepid 6 were at the Assembly Rooms in Tamworth by 12:30 and were greeted by a sizeable list of beers from a host of smaller breweries across the country. For the most part the offerings were pretty good.
Highlights were:
Aleworks – Rogue Harvest, a 5% IPA,
ChurchEnd – Gotham City Gold, 5.5%
Dexter – The Dark Knight Roast , 6.1%
Alnwick – Earl Grey IPA, 4.2%
The bitters were a bit of a mixed bag and the Voodoo Empress 8.4% Impy Stout created a difference of opinion but was definitely a sipper.
The one real disappointment was The Knights Tipple, Iron Fist an 8.2% belgian dubbel, being very bitter for the style and completely flat (ok, it was a cask festival, but all the same…).
Exhausting our tokens we trotted off to the Tamworth Tap (it would have been rude not to) for a pint and bite to eat, followed by a swifty in the comfort of Old Bank House. As ever both very good.
Arrived back in MK at 20:00, having avoided any kebab or battered sausage fails. We will return!
For anyone who hasn’t been Tamworth is definitely worth a visit.
